Have you searched for a job on your phone? Surveys show that almost 75% of job seekers use a mobile device to look for a job. Chances are, you are one of them. To keep up with this growing trend, companies are constantly developing new ways to find, attract and engage candidates via mobile. As a job seeker, how can you use this awesome technology to your advantage? Here are a few ideas:
Make your resume accessible – You will want to have your resume accessible via your phone in order to email it to an employer or upload it to a website. For starters, I recommend emailing your resume to yourself – so you can always find it in your inbox. I also would suggest storing your resume and any other job search documents, e.g. work samples, cover letters, etc. to an online storage site like Google Drive.
Use apps – Apps are probably the easiest way to look for jobs on your phone; they are specifically designed for searching and applying on a mobile device. You can download apps from your top job sites, like Monster, CareerBuilder, indeed, Simply Hired, etc. and you can even find job apps from individual companies.
Mobile websites – Even if they don’t have an app, many companies have a mobile version of their website where you can easily search and apply for jobs.
Get directions – On your way to an interview and you’re lost? Get out your smartphone and find your way.
Keep up with news – Have a few minutes before your interview, check out the company’s website or social media pages for the latest, greatest news use can use in your discussion.
Be social – Many social media sites, like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn have mobile apps where you can network, look for jobs and research companies. Use them!
Using your mobile device is a great resource to have in your job search toolbox. You can look for a job, network and do just about anything. Anytime. Anywhere. What are you waiting for?
